Experts have explained what the animals are likely to be and where is the most likely place to spot them, as well as what action you need to take
A new documentary featuring the so-called ‘Beast of Smallthorne’, Panthera Britannia Declassified examines whether big cats are in fact living in the wild British countryside. Whilst the thought of giant cats roaming through fields in the UK may seem an absurd thought, the documentary focuses on an image which is claimed to be the ‘clearest photo ever’ of a big cat prowling the countryside in Smallthorne, an area of Stoke-on-Trent.
The majority of supposed big cat sightings in the UK are said to be black panthers, which are either jaguars or leopards which have melanism, a mutation that causes an excess of melanin. "Leopards in particular also love to roam in forests, and can often be found lounging in the branches of tree tops. They tend to take their kills and stash them in trees, dragging what they’ve caught up into the branches and protecting it from scavengers who may try to steal it.
