Shorting is a strategy used by investors to profit from falling prices in financial markets
. Edouard de Langlade, founder of macro hedge fund EDL Capital, is one such person who has been betting on a fall in pound, cashing in as the currency weakened.
Mr de Langlade is not the only one to be short selling at the moment after former Bank of England policymaker Danny Blanchflower weighed in with criticism oflast week, concluding that investors should “short the pound”. Short selling is a practice used by investors to take advantage of markets that are falling in price. Those buying and selling stocks often bet on which companies won’t do well in the future.
