It's been a positive start for a new-look Liverpool entering the next phase of Jurgen Klopp's evolution.
A quartet of new players have arrived to complete a redecorating of the midfield engine room. Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai's early summer additions were added to by the arrivals of Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch later on in the window to counteract the departures of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner, Naby Keita, Jordan Henderson and Fabinho.
Premier League points tallies of 97, 99 and 92 in three of the four seasons between 2019 and 2022 only add further weight to the theory that supporters have been spoiled watching one of the finest eras in decades. The bulk is now at an age range where their best years lie in wait. Mac Allister , Szoboszlai and Gravenberch join a group that houses players like Nunez, Gakpo, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ibrahima Konate, who are all 24, alongside three 26-year-olds in Diaz, Diogo Jota and Joe Gomez.
Liverpool were adamant that Salah's dedication and professionalism meant that it was not a risk giving a player who had just turned 30 last summer the biggest deal ever handed out by the club and a 30-goal return last time out was vindication of that stance. What happens next with Salah's particular situation will be instructive to how this team is able to grow further.
