And youngsters aged 14 years receive it as part of a 3-in-1 teenage booster.Booster jabs are offered on the NHS and the health service recommends having one if people are travelling to an area where diphtheria is considered to be high risk.
According to the World Health Organisation , during 2021, about 81 per cent of infants worldwide received 3 doses of the diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis vaccine.The NHS maintains that there is little risk of diphtheria spreading among the general population. Cases are rare in the UK and the disease can be treated easily with antibiotics and other medicines.
