Ladies and gentlemen, make way for the Double Dab Butty and accompanying curry sauce to dip it in 😋😋😋
Picture this - it's a Friday, you're about to finish work and all you can think about is tucking into your weekly chippy.
It sounds quite like your friendly next door neighbour or the subject of some sort of old folklore, but the John Bull is in a league of its own. A dish that become popular due to its inexpensiveness, it is a unique concoction of seasoned mince meat, sandwiched between two potato slices and all encased in their very light, crispy batter.
Having a quick Google, Holly Tree's Facebook page solved the mystery . Owner Michael Rose is passionate about his business and his dish's local origins. Michael suspects his mum had some knowledge of his undercover dab activities, but his dad definitely must have known as he was "regularly deployed by the Head to clear the chippy of students and get them back to school."
Michael does issue a disclaimer at the end, stating that although a lot of neighbouring towns may call a Dab something involving fish, this is more of a scallop.Initially we order a single Dab, with the added satisfaction that it will only set me back 70p. However, due to poor planning skills, we are only armed with a bank card. Holly Tree works with a minimum card spend of £3.
