Apple pies don't get any better than this 🥧
One bakery from Kirikintilloch boasts Scotland's best apple pie so it only makes sense for me to give it a try.
Peter's Bakery sits on Merkland Drive in the East Dumbartonshire town. The shop front may be understated but the goods inside are a sight to behold. As soon as you step throught the front door there is a sea of colour. The sweet goods look and smell divine, whilst the variety of savoury bakes leave the tastebuds tingling.However, there is one thing that everyone comes to Peter's for....the apple pie. The desert was declared the best in the country at the Scotch Pie awards this yearThe pie looks exactly like an ideal desert should.
"We always buy the top quality flour, margerines, apples and everything. We are from a long line of bakers and the recipe has been in the family for generations and we've tweaked it along the way.The biggest fear when it comes to using an apple filling is that it seeps into the base and makes it soggy, this base was strong. I sliced into it with ease and the slice held together well, with both filling and pie sticking together.
