Weekend = chippy tea
On a rainy, grey November day, a quick trip down Burscough Street in Ormskirk never fails to lift your spirits.
I order fish and chips - what else - which, when it arrives, is mouth wateringly succulent and just the ticket for the dismal, cold outside. As always, I tell myself I will ‘only eat half,’ and yes, as always, this does not happen: instead, I wolf the lot down in the space of ten minutes. Never mind, I tell myself - I’ll get the steps in later.
When Lancs Live last paid a visit to Stafford’s Fish and Chips in June, the then owner was struggling with skyrocketing food and fuel costs, telling us that a chippy had been on the premises since 1904, and the shop which had survived two world wars and the pandemic was ‘hard work at the minute.
