The Manchester United legend has never hid his affinity for the Parkhead side.
The Manchester United and England legend, who is currently the manager of MLS outfit club D.C. United, has made no secrets in the past of his affiliation with the Scottish champions. Rooney once branded a penalty scored at the home of rivals Rangers as one of his favourites in his Champions League collection and fondly recalled his first experience of Celtic Park when former Hoops man Alan Stubbs brought him to Glasgow, before taking in the famed Old Firm derby some years later.
And the 37-year-old shared that affinity again when posting a picture of his youngest son Cass kitted out in last season's Hoops away kit. Rooney posted to his social media: "New season for the little man. Good luck in your first session Cass," in a picture that was liked by current Celtic number one and former England teammate of Rooney's in Joe Hart.
Instagram Rooney told the Celtic View in 2008 before playing the Hoops of his first Old Firm experience: “That was a great day at Ibrox. But I'd been before, when I was about 16 or 17. Alan Stubbs had brought me up [from Merseyside] to see a European game at Celtic Park and I loved every minute of it. It was brilliant to go up and go into the players’ lounge.
“The fans were brilliant with me. As soon as I walked in, someone spotted me and I was handed loads of scarves and Celtic hats. It was all good fun and it was great to see Celtic win.”
