This morning the Office for National Statistics revealed that between the 2011 and 2021 the population of Watford increased by 13.2%, from just over 90,300 in 2011 to around 102,200 in 2021.The 2021 census also showed the median age had risen from 35 to 36 in Watford over 10 years.
Watford also bucked a national trend where the percentage of households made up of a couple with dependent children fell. In Watford it rose from 21.9% in 2011 to 23.7% in 2021. The same was true of percentage of people who were married or in a civil partnership, which fell 2.1% across England but rose 1.2% in the town.
England was the most common country of birth for people in Watford, followed by India, Romania, Pakistan, and then Poland. However, the percentage of people born in England fell from 73% to 64.5%.
