Among the balloons, banners and cakes – 95-year-old Grace crossed the finish line while hundreds cheered her on
There was plenty to cheer for in Ormeau Park at the weekend as the weekly Parkrun turned out to be much more for many.
Each Saturday morning at 9:30am, walkers, runners and volunteers take to the park for the free 5K loop. And on Saturday, June 24, over 500 were in attendance, to celebrate the Parkrun's 10th birthday, and several other big achievements. And amongst the balloons, banners and cakes, 95-year-old Grace Chambers, who runs every week, crossed the Parkrun finish line while hundreds cheered her on.
Speaking to Belfast Live, volunteers Áine Ní Cheara and Eimear McCooey said:"We had Ormeau Parkrun's 10th birthday, Grace Chambers turning 95, one of our Run Directors Lukas Leung turning 18 , 5k Your Way turning five, and two Jog Belfast graduations with around 60 people from Colin and Lorag. "We had 527 runners and walkers on the day made possible entirely by volunteers. It was a brilliant morning."For more information on Parkrun, visit
