Secretary of State Mel Stride's inability to attend meetings with women born in the 1950s who are impacted by increases to the State Pension age has been clarified by the Department for Work and Pensions .
The DWP was found guilty of "maladministration" in July 2021 by the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman for their failure to notify the age adjustments in a timely manner. The PHSO is currently looking into the harm that was caused. However, a legal challenge has forced the second part of the investigation to be postponed, which has caused a delay in the Ombudsman's final report.
In a written response, DWP Pensions Minister Laura Trott MBE MP explained that it would be "inappropriate" to engage in discussions outside the PHSO investigation or comment on the ongoing proceedings. Ms Trott stated: "The Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman has not completed his investigation into communication of changes to women's state pension.
