Preston pensioner conned out of thousands by fraudsters posing as police on the phone
Residents across Lancashire have urged residents to 'be vigilant' after a vulnerable pensioner was conned out of thousands of pounds by conmen pretending to be police.
The victim transferred £5000 before he realised that he had been decived. An investigation has been opened by Lancashire Police .Lancashire Police said: "We are warning people to be vigilant after a man was conned out of thousands of pounds by fraudsters posing as the police. " and calling the genuine police. An investigation is now underway. We would like to remind people to be vigilant and if you get this type of phone call, report it to the police and/ or your bank before transferring any money into another account or agreeing to hand any of your cash over."
Anyone who receives a call from someone saying they are from the police, or another law enforcement agency, is told to call 101 to verify they do work for the police. Anyone with an elderly friend or relative is advised to let them know that this has happened so they can avoid becoming a potential victim.
