Alnwick volunteers rescuing and rehoming stray catsA team of volunteers have trapped dozens of wild cats living in a single garden area over the last year.
It is believed the colony in Alnwick, Northumberland, began with a single stray female that was being fed by local residents and an unneutered visiting tom. Jen Robinson said: "You would never think it, they're just all over and it's not just this town, they're all over the place." The strays are often covered in fleas and have worms, so get treated and neutered before being released or taken for rehoming. The RSPCA's animal welfare work in local communities for helping feral cat colonies also involves trap, neuter and return programmes.
