It is thought at least one child is among those dead.
Dozens of people are dead in the major South African city of Johannesburg after a massive building fire The catastrophic blaze started in a multi-storey building in the major South African city in the early hours of Thursday morning.Spokesperson for the emergency services Robert Mulaudzi said a rescue operation is under way, but added it is likely the death toll will rise further. He warned the chances of people finding their loved ones alive are ‘very slim’.
The blaze has been mostly extinguished, but smoke can still be seen seeping out of the windows of the blackened five-storey building.Pieces of sheets and material are also seen hanging out of the windows, and it is unclear whether people were using them in an attempt to escape. Firefighters evacuated the remaining occupants inside after arriving and are now working from floor to floor to recover bodies.
