Adam Williams owns a vaping shop in Liverpool city centre
The owner of a vape shop in Liverpool believes criminals and the black market would be "minted" if a proposed ban on disposable vapes went ahead.
It has been reported in recent days that the UK government is planning to ban disposable vapes, which are pre-filled with a certain amount of e-liquid and are disposed of when the liquid runs out. It is illegal to sell vapes or vaping products to people under the age of 18, but disposable vapes are said to be attractive to children, due to them being sold in a variety of flavours and packaged in bright colours.
“One or two tries and from that, if it does work for them, then they'll invest a little bit more and maybe go on to the refillable types or the pod types. Where the idea of banning is concerned, all that will happen is that they'll get pushed underground.” According to him, the focus should be on a stronger disciplinary process for vaping shops who break the law. Mr Williams said: “I think a warning would suffice for the first offence, then £1,000, then £5,000, and then after that, closure.
He said: “I’d refuse to sell them, end of. I’d say, it’s a free world and you can buy them from somewhere else, I won’t get involved.” For Mr Williams, as a former heavy smoker, he considers his work as a “vocation” rather than a job, helping people to live healthier lives away from tobacco. He said: “There's two categories of smokers. There's the smokers who gave up, and don't want to slip back to smoking.
