Boulter continues her dream US Open run, Draper reaches the third round again, while Evans and Norrie win as well
The second set was a different story for Boulter. There were three breaks in a row, but crucially two for the Briton, who then broke again en route to a 33-minute 6-1 set.
Boulter held her nerve, advancing 5-7, 6-1, 6-4 to keep her dream run going, with the third round guaranteeing her a £150k payday minimum. Boulter faces the unseeded Peyton Stearns next, the American world No 69 who beat Clara Tauson 6-3, 6-0. “My resilience [was the most pleasing]. Tactically I was trying to be very aggressive, I got tight in the first set but bounced back, loosened up and found ways to win points.”
Draper, 21, missed Wimbledon due to a shoulder problem earlier this summer, but he is very much a top-10 player in the making – should he avoid further injuries – and was a class above Hurkacz, who often struggles at the US Open.
