Police are continuing to look for convicted murderer, 59-year-old Thomas McCabe
Another man convicted of attempted GBH with intent also escaped custody on compassionate release when he should have been escorted by prison staff.
A Department of Justice spokesperson said with regards to McCabe: “Prisoners approaching the end of their sentence will be tested prior to release back into the community. Individuals will have fully engaged in a number of tests, which challenge and support them to make positive change in their lives.
“Preparing people for release is a vital part of rehabilitation as it reduces their risk of re-offending which helps to make the community safer.” Police are appealing for him to hand himself in directly and are also asking anyone with any information regarding his whereabouts to contact them.
