A new variant of the virus was detected in the UK on August 18, and represents the most concerning new strain since the discovery of Omicron in December 2021.
Health officials in England have brought forward flu and Covid vaccinations due to the risk of a new Covid variant.
Public Health Scotland previously announced on August 8 that the vaccination rollout in Scotland would begin on Monday September 4. The PHS has confirmed to the Daily Record these plans remain unchanged. The UKHSA has advised that speeding up the autumn vaccine rollout would bring about greater protection, especially for those at the most risk for severe illness - and could reduce any potential impact on the NHS.
