Study finds that online learning during COVID-19 was detrimental to teen mentalhealth, school satisfaction, performance PLOSONE

We worked with the survey company, Qualtrics , to recruit the sample after receiving approval by the institutional review board of the first author’s university. As parents had already consented to their adolescent’s inclusion on the panel, the review board waived the need for active parent consent. Adolescents were contacted online and invited to take part in a research study. They provided assent to participate prior to answering any survey questions.

We asked participants how they participated in school this month , or if they were already on summer break, how they participated in school the last month prior to summer break. Participant response options included “in-person in the school building”, “hybrid model where some school is in-person and some is virtual/online”, “completely virtual/online”, “a different version of school ”, or “did not attend school at all”.

How flawed ‘droplet spread’ narratives shaped the UK's COVID policy responseHow flawed ‘droplet spread’ narratives shaped the UK's COVID policy responseIn a recent analysis published in the British Medical Journal, Trisha Greenhalgh and colleagues explored inaccurate narratives of the mode of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) transmission, propagating that it spreads through droplets and fomites but not air.
