Trump quietly collects cash and tours swing states ahead of effort to ‘break’ US system ➡️ The former Republican president’s team has been scoping out staff ahead of a widely expected campaign to return to office in 2024
is collecting cash and touring swing states ahead of an expected presidential run in 2024 that political experts fear could deepen divides in an attempt to “break” the US political system.
“The fundraising started the day after the 2020 election, in the guise of a ‘Defense Fund’ to ‘Stop the Steal’,” he said. “Some of that money has been used to support Trumpist candidates in the 2022 mid-terms, but a lot is for Trump’s run. “This is not hyperbole. The system was able to hold together in 2020-2021, after four years of Trump corrosion, amid the Capitol Attack and Trump’s coup attempt. I don’t think it can withstand a second Trump term.”The spectre of a second Trump term has loomed large over the electorate since he was defeated in 2020 by Joe Biden and failed to concede the vote.
Last month he told a crowd of supporters in Robston, Texas: “In order to make our country successful, safe and glorious again, I will probably have to do it again,” in a typical example of his ambiguous comments designed to maintain his influence and keep political pundits guessing.
