Tonight's episode of the ITV drama will focus on the case of Leeds University student Jacqueline Hill
The penultimate episode of ITV's The Long Shadow airs tonight and will focus on Peter Sutcliffe's last victim, Jacqueline Hill.
Just hours before her death she had been at a meeting with probation service workers where she had applied to become a volunteer. The group had decided to head for a pint at the end of the meet and Jacqueline joined them. At his trial, Sutcliffe pleaded not guilty to murder on grounds of diminished responsibility, due to his diagnosis of paranoid schizophrenia, but this was rejected. He was convicted of killing 13 women and attempting to murder seven others and sentenced to life imprisonment.
The switched the focus of inquiries to the North East for 18 months. Speaking in 1981, Doreen said that Wearside Jack 'had a few deaths on his conscience'. In Leeds, the marches started in Chapeltown and Woodhouse Moor, the Chapeltown march consisted of approximately 30 women and the Woodhouse march of 85. The marches converged on City Square and those involved carried signs such as "No Curfew on Women - Curfew on Men."
