The new docu-series, arriving next month, sounds truly horrifying
Netflix is due to release a brand new documentary about the true crime that inspired hit horror film The Conjuring III. Titled The Devil On Trial, the upcoming horrifying series will be a must-watch for fans of the franchise after movie makers based the third movie in the Conjuring saga on the terrifying ordeal of Arne Cherenne Johnson.
It is based on the story of then 19-year-old Arne Cherenne Johnson, who in 1981 claimed he had been possessed by a demonic entity that led him to murder his landlord Alan Bono at a party. Even though he confessed to the killing, Johnson blamed the supernatural entity for his actions. On the defence, the Warrens were by Johnson's side to help try to prove his innocence. It is believed, especially by witnesses, that the entity took up residence in Johnson's body, who was at the formal exorcism of 11-year-old boy, David Glatzel, as the Warren's tried to rid him of a demon.
Now, Netflix is set to release an in-depth look of the trial, with the docu-series to "explore the first – and only – time demonic possession has officially been used as a defence in a US murder trial.” The Devil On Trial is said to include "first-hand accounts of alleged devil possession and a shocking murder", forcing viewers to reflect on the fear of the unknown.
