'Passengers will notice a huge difference from the last time they got off buses there five years ago'
Bus operator trentbarton will start running services again from Nottingham's Broad Marsh after the opening of a new bus station. The old Broad Marsh car park and bus station were both demolished in 2017 to make way for the new £50m facility.
The new 1,200-space car park opened last November and the bus station was due to open at around the same time, but the work was plagued by delays. Council officials then celebrated the departure of the first National Express coaches from the new station in June, and trentbarton now says it is ready to start running services from it.
Buses from trentbarton and sister operator Kinchbus will start again from Sunday , with more than 250 services a day expected to call at the Canal Street station. Jeff Counsell, the managing director of trentbarton and Kinchbus, said: "We're very excited that Broad Marsh will once again be a destination for our customers and their drivers.
Nottingham's new Central Library will also open within the development next summer. Councillor David Mellen, the leader of Nottingham City Council, said: "We’re really pleased to welcome trentbarton to the new Broad Marsh bus station and are sure that passengers will notice a huge difference from the last time they got off buses here five years ago.
“They will benefit from a range of modern facilities, including seating areas, electronic display information, customer toilets and 24/7 security services. The area, including nearby Sussex Street, has been transformed into a modern, welcoming space and we look forward to the next stage in the wider redevelopment of the Broad Marsh site."
