The practice, based within the NHS Ayrshire & Arran health board area, ‘did not follow’ the correct guidelines, according to the Scottish Public Services Ombudsman.

A patient in need of a liver transplant was scrubbed from a medical practice register – after they made comments about their treatment on social media.

The medical practice, which has not been named, has been told to apologise to the patient in writing and seen a complaint against it upheld, in part, by the Scottish Public Services Ombudsman . C required a liver transplant due to liver cirrhosis induced by the treatment.

The report goes on: “We also found that the practice had sought specialist advice and followed NICE guidelines appropriately. The SPSO report said: “C noted that they were given no warning and that their poor health, vulnerability and their requirement for continuity of care were not taken into account.
