The frontwoman of the Glasgow-based band Comfort, who is trans herself, has called out JK Rowling's comments about the transgender community in her new single, saying she's ‘as real as Rowling.’
Glasgow duo Comfort is fronted by trans woman Natalie, and their new track, Real Woman, sees her declare she is – as you may have guessed from the title – as real as any woman.
The video sees the musician pretend to use a urinal while singing ‘I’m an adult human female,’ and she goes on to say ‘I’m as real as Rowling,’ referring to the author’sAt the same time, Natalie lifts up her top to reveal two photos of the 57-year-old covering her nipples. Last year, the writer attracted further backlash from the LGBTQ+ community when she backed a protest against the Gender Recognition Reform bill, describing it as ‘the biggest assault on the rights of Scottish women and girls’.Rowling recently launched a new support service in Scotland for cis women who have experienced sexual violence or abuse, saying at the time she founded it ‘to provide what I believe is currently an unmet need for women in the Lothians area.
