Nottingham Railway Station has reopened after it was evacuated over concerns of smoke within the premises. British Transport Police said the smoking had been "caused by an electrical fault within one of the premises".

Firefighters were called out and transport officers confirmed the station had been evacuated in a tweet at 5.37pm on Friday . By 6.04pm the station had reopened and been deemed safe, BTP said. People on Twitter had earlier reported that their trains had been delayed. In reply to one disgruntled passenger who said his train ran behind schedule, operator East Midlands Railway said: "Apologies for the delay this evening. Trains in and out of Nottingham were disrupted because Nottingham station was evacuated earlier due to a fire alarm."EMR said that passengers delayed by more than 15 minutes can claim compensation.

Back in January 2018, a huge fire which started in the women's toilets at the station caused £5.6m-worth of damage as the fire spread across the roof.
