It's certainly changed a lot over the last two decades.

Glasgow's Forge set a new standard for Scottish shopping when it first opened its doors back in 1988.

With its wide variety of outlets and the huge Gateway supermarket , which was the largest in Scotland at the time, the east end landmark truly was one of a kind.GlasgowAt that time, the Parkhead shopping complex was home to more than 70 high street brands and independent outlets, including Asda, Baby Barrow, Clinton Cards, Electronics Boutique, Littlewoods, Missing Labels, Sports Connection, Symingtons and a UGC Cinema.

While one or two are still with us at the Forge to this day, so many of these businesses have fallen by the wayside in the years since as the shopping centre continues to evolve., we've spun the hands of time back 22 years to bring you a selection of shops that were in operation in the Forge in 2001.Before going defunct in 2014, Dixons was one of the largest retailers of consumer electronics in all of Europe. It’s now vanished and part of the Currys/PC World empire.
