An Independent councillor suspended by the Tory Party has quit Blackburn with Darwen Council after failing to attend a meeting for six months

Before polling day Mr Walker was suspended by the Conservative Party pending an investigation.Since his election he has remained suspended while he completed a training course before a decision was made on his re-admission. This week Independent Mr Walker was disqualified from the council for having failed to attend a meeting for six months as required by national rules.
Cllr John Slater, leader of the borough council Conservative group, said: “Andrew Walker has unfortunately resigned from the council. He runs a multi-million pound haulage company and unfortunately he has found he does not have the time to do his job as a councillor properly.”
