Families on low incomes or benefits could receive the cash

As the cost of living crisis continues, thousands of households could expect to receive an additional £400 in support. This money is distributed through the Household Support Fund and then given to local councils to deliver to those eligible.

From April 1, 2023, the government approved an additional £842million in Household Support Fund money available. Since the fund started in October 2021, the total amount allocated now surpasses £2billion. , but it is up to each local authority to decide what support to give and who gets it. Generally recipients are families on low incomes or benefits that are entitled to the help and you’ll normally be given support with food, energy, or other household bills, reports The Daily Mirror. This money is being given to those who have not had any previous support from government funding, including cost of living payments.

Those that fall into multiple categories will still only receive one payment. Residents should check with their local authority what support is available, either by checking their website or asking your local council. Enter your postcode by using this link to see who your local authority is. Each council website should have a dedicated page set up with details of its Household Support Fund.
