The loan provides a safe solution for local people who are feeling the financial pinch due to the ongoing cost-of-living crisis, and is unique in that it's currently the only loan product that has been launched by a credit union in response to the affordability crisis. “Credit unions represent a positive, safe solution to short-term credit pressures. SoundPound is a fantastic initiative that shows Greater Manchester is doing things differently and coming together to support each other.”
All eight Greater Manchester community credit unions have signed up to the initiative, including Cash Box credit union for Tameside, Hoot credit union for Bolton, Manchester Credit Union, Oldham Credit Union, Salford Credit Union, South Manchester Credit Union, Stockport Credit Union, and Unify credit union for Wigan.
"We're all about helping people and are built on a real community spirit. When you look at any other lender, they're all about profit. Obviously, we need to make a profit to exist, but every penny of profit we do make stays within our local communities. We return money to our savers as a dividend. Our money doesn't line the pockets of rich shareholders like elsewhere, it helps real people within our community.
