'The boys got priority first for everything'
While watching the Women’s World Cup Final, Eva saw herself reflected in the England team. Not just because they were talented women playing football at a high level, but because many of the players had also left the country to pursue their dream.
“The boys got priority first for everything. We always could see that favouritism towards the boys. A lot of the universities in England, the football teams are kind of like on the side if you just wanna play. Eva, 19, has been in America for just under a month and is playing and studying at the East Central Community College in Mississippi, Texas on an athletic and academic scholarship. Her aim is obtain a degree while playing to forge a career for herself in football on or off the pitch.
“I didn’t really know what to expect but it’s been so good. I was petrified but it’s like the best thing I’ve ever done, it’s been worth it," she said. “They have everything. Tennis courts, softball courts, baseball courts, American football fields. They really back the athletics side.”
