The band announced on Monday that their 60th anniversary concerts would be their last

Irish rebel music band The Wolfe Tones are to retire from performing next year following their show in the SSE Arena in October.

Speaking to the Irish Sun, the band’s lead singer Tommy Byrne said the age of himself and fellow band members Brian Warfield and Noel Nagle was the key factor in the decision. READ MORE: The Wolfe Tones announce new Belfast show for January 2024 “I never thought that we would go on so long," Tommy said.“I brought this motion to Brian and Noel and they agreed. To go out on a high like this would be a great tribute to the band.

The group’s annual appearance at the summer festival has been criticised after pro-IRA chanting has been recorded during their performances. “We always agreed that if one of us passed away, we wouldn’t continue by getting in new Wolfe Tones to replace them.
