The water pollution rules that could be ripped up to allow more housebuilding

Currently, councils in protected areas of England do not allow new developments unless they are 'nutrient neutral'

These chemicals can decrease the water quality, harm wildlife and contribute to the growth of excess algae.

Developers have claimed this prevented thousands of homes from being built, with industry projections saying housebuilding in England will soon fall below levels not seen since the The Government is also set to announce hundreds of millions of pounds worth of extra funding to mitigate the potential impact on England’s waterways.

“We recognise the urgency of this issue and have taken substantial steps to both unlock housing now and to address the underlying causes of nutrient pollution at source.”Liberal Democrats
