Now that we’ve marked the 75th birthday of the NHS we must be honest. It wasn’t a moment of celebration. It felt like a wake 🖊️ ayeshahazarika via ipaperviews
The NHS feels like it’s on its way into a political hospice right now. Everyone who is connected to it in any way is terrified for it.
But that doesn’t mean we love the NHS. Far from it. Our day-to-day interactions are fraught from the frazzled, and often rude, receptionist to the antiquated administration where you get your letter about your very important hospital appointment two days after the aforementioned hospital appointment.
Labour has always been seen as the party of the NHS. If you ever want a cheer line at PMQs or conference, trot out the phrase “and we all know you can’t trust the Tories with the NHS – only Labour can save our health service”. Cue thunderous applause and even possibly a standing ovation.
