This autumn luxury brands have turned their attention to basics, as commuter-ready style was given a high-fashion makeover by the likes of Miu Miu, Gucci and Bottega Veneta. The models atall had an artfully dishevelled look – they looked a little bit windswept, un-manicured and more real-world than runway, with grey marl hoodies tucked underneath roomy peacoats, and leggings paired with buckled loafers.
September is always regarded as the moment in the fashion calendar to invest in wardrobe building blocks – whether that’s a new coat or a pair of ankle– and this season, that feeling is all the more relevant. Instead of impractical high heels or party dresses that will hang in your wardrobe unloved, the AW23 runways made us lust after oversized hoodies and leather biker jackets that you don’t need an excuse to wear.
