England's women are 90 minutes away from World Cup glory

And now the proud teachers of the Lionesses, who nurtured their talent from the beginning, have opened up on how it feels to see their former pupils make history.

"Keira settled into the school community really well, she was always polite and respectful and you could tell she was going to go on to be a top class professional." United star Ella Toone's former PE teacher said it was “not a surprise” that the midfielder reached her first World Cup final after England beat Australia 3-1 on Wednesday.

"She was a big starting point and now we run a number of girls’ teams and we have a lot of girls join football teams, and that all started from Ella.” He said: “Hopefully, she’ll play some part in that and carry on her goalscoring because she seems to pick up the goals at the most important times. Hopefully, she’ll score another goal . “To get through the World Cup finals is amazing for the country, especially after the Lionesses winning the Euros.

"In her time at the school, she was an exceptional student. She had an incredible work ethic in both her academic studies and also with her commitment to her grueling training schedule, which she balanced incredibly well. "Some of our students have started a similar journey to Katie’s and are currently playing with professional clubs and they regularly talk about becoming the next Katie Zelem – so it is clear that she continues to inspire many of our young people and that her legacy remains.
