Step foot onto the streets of Manchester and you will be hit with a cacophony of sounds you would expect to hear in any modern city.
The hum of Beetham Tower Countless people have been spooked by the ominous hum in Manchester during windy days. When strong winds hit, they are often accompanied by a strange humming sound caused by one of the city's tallest buildings, Beetham Tower.A professor of acoustic engineering at Salford University, Professor Trevor Cox, told the M.E.N that it's because of the fins at the top of the building. It's akin to blowing across the top of a bottle and getting a sound.
