The condition can be difficult to treat and has a very high mortality rate

People are being urged by medical experts to be aware of seven symptoms of a difficult to treat disease that has a "scary bad" mortality rate.

Survival rates from the condition are also poor, with just 25 per cent of people surviving the condition for a year or more - and only five per cent go on for 10 years or more following their diagnosis. The pancreas measures just six inches in length, and sits behind the stomach, in front of the spine. While it is small, the pancreas is an important organ, carrying out the essential job of digesting food in the small intestine.

Read on for the symptoms the Medical University of South Carolina say people should be keeping an eye out for in their bodies. Other common signs of pancreatic cancer include tiredness, pain in the back and upper abdomen, weight loss and a poor appetite.
