There are some words people simply can't stand
Slang is part of our everyday language but there are some words that people simply can't stand. According to a survey by language learning platform Preply the UK's most annoying slang word is 'innit', closely followed by the term 'bird' when used to refer to women in a sexist manner.
Rich Evans said: "Hospickle, and ickle. The use of these should come with a custodial sentence," while Patrick Carlisle said: "People who include yea in every sentence then refer to everything as guy, it grinds me down.
Mispronunciation rankles Margaret Feeney especially: "Somethink instead of something and could of instead of could have," and this is the one that irritates Russel Bradley: "People who say 'you know' every third word. If I knew there would be no point in listening."
