The lavish resort popular with celebrities including Adele you can fly to from Manchester Airport for £120
While we’ve been enduring pretty lousy weather in the UK this summer, the rich and famous have been soaking up the sun at lavish resorts across the Mediterranean. One favourite haunt with the well-heeled is the beautiful Costa Smeralda in northern Sardinia.
The seaside resort of Porto Cervo is a popular spot with famous faces in particular. A tiny town with a population of just over 400 people, it was purposefully designed in the 1950s for wealthy holidaymakers.Today it’s a millionaire’s playground with streets lined with designer boutiques, while the town’s marina is packed with some of the world’s most expensive yachts.
Although this kind of holiday is out of reach for us mere mortals, you can still enjoy a trip to Costa Smeralda without breaking the bank. There are flights you can catch direct from Manchester Airport to Olbia, a city around 30 miles south of Porto Cervo. Not quite as exclusive as Porto Cervo, Olbia still allows you the chance to sample the Sardinian lifestyle - and who knows, you might spot a celebrity or two during your holiday. Historically an important harbour, Olbia became the gateway to the Costa Smeralda in the second half of the 20th century and has since developed into a bustling city.
