had a lot to live up to with its finale – but we are pleased to report that it did not disappoint.largely focused on the climax of Joel and Ellie's journey towards harnessing her immunity to save the world from cordyceps. It was a smart move, and one that allowed us to really sit with the investment we've made in their relationship.
But there was one devastating reveal that hinged entirely on a monstrous clicker, and which ultimately served to set the overarching story in motion. The opening flashback scene forfor both fans of the television series and video games – after much speculation and theorising, we now know exactly what gave Ellie her immunity, and it grew from a bite to her mother while she was still in her womb.
It was made clear in the flashback that Ellie's mother had lied to Marlene, telling her that she had been bittenshe'd cut the umbilical chord .
