After dinner, the lighting changed and an MC took to the stage for the dancing to commence. “I’ve taught dance to people of all ages, from four to 74, and strongly believe we can all dance,” says Gautam, who was a Bollywood choreographer and dancer until he was 20 years old.
On Saturday, the stardust and colour gave way to the beach formal service and New Orleans splendour at L’Escollera. The grooms got ready together at their modernist villa, with their respective siblings in tow for the preparation fun. They wore custom SMR suits, embroidered using a technique called chikankari. “It is a specialty from Lucknow. It’s been my favourite for as long as I can remember – and being able to reinterpret it in a very modern way on our suits was incredible.
The 5pm wedding was officiated by their friend and matchmaker, the fashion consultant Candice Fragis, who wore a breathtaking Rick Owens dress that billowed in the sea breeze. The arch from the Bollywood evening was recycled as a chuppah and dressed with bougainvillea. The couple wrote their own vows, and Fragis led the official proceedings but added an Ibizan twist: She stopped in the middle and had everyone do a one-minute meditation with her, embracing the calm and love of the setting.
“The spirituality that came through with the meditation was definitely a highlight – unexpected and magical,” Gautam agrees. The wedding day was full of winks to New Orleans as well: A jazz band flew in from London, playing “When the Saints Come Marching In” and then “Walking to New Orleans” as the newlyweds walked out. An abundance of ferns decorated the restaurant, with copious lanterns, replicating French Quarter balconies.
For the remainder of the evening, Adam wore his vintage Dior Homme black suit and Gautam changed into a vintage Dries Van Noten suit. “We did not want to buy too much new stuff. Although I did buy sparkly Prada dancing shoes,” says Adam. When night fully fell on the island, the New York DJs Carry Nation began playing. “Nita, who’s one half of the Carry Nation, I’ve known since I was 20 years old,” says Adam. “And they’re so fun. The music was such a great mix of disco and house.
