At a glance it could be a "city of the future" from a 1960s Eagle comic through which American super heroes weave. A place where towers dominate and thousands of tiny lights shine.
The image is compared to how the city looks today looking from the same location with the 47-storey Beetham Tower, completed in 2006, in the foreground. In recent years their march across the city's skyline has been relentless. Are they proof of a booming property market as Mancunia strives to be a major European city or the creation of quick-build opportunists cashing in on a huge increase in people living in the city centre.
The first tall building boom was in the 1960s and 1970s, which included the 118 m CIS Tower which became the tallest building in the UK when constructed in 1962 and the 107 m City Tower.
