The strangely named Savoury Duck was something of an acquired taste, not least for the fact that there was no duck in the actual recipe. Of course, adaptations of the original recipe have been made over the years, and for some people, you can't call it a proper Manchester Tart unless it contains banana while others have theirs topped with coconut or cream and a cherry.

Similar to Eccles cakes, except Chorley cakes are made with shortcrust, not puff pastry.Cornflake tart Yet another school dinner memory for many, the cornflake tart - sometimes cornflake pie - was a sweet treat.

In an article in the Guardian in July this year, Karen Dyson from Manchester reminisced about the sweet treat she remembered, saying: "Well, I don’t know about 'interesting' or 'adventurous', 'imagined … while thinking about scouts having sandwiches over a campfire', but I do know that deep-fried jam sandwiches are delicious. My mother used to make them for us in the early 1970s.
