Officers from Police Scotland are continuing to investigate Monday night's alleged attack in Inverurie, Aberdeenshire.
Officers from Police Scotland were alerted over claims a serious sexual assault had taken place in Inverurie, Aberdeenshire, on Monday.
The force launched a probe into the September 4, 2023 incident. It's claimed the sex attack took place near to the River Don and St James' Place, in the Aberdeenshire town, on Monday evening. A 16-year-old was detained in connection with the investigation but has since been released from police custody while the probe continues.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “A 16-year-old male youth has been arrested in connection with a serious sexual assault that took place near to the River Don and St James’ Place, Inverurie, around 6.30pm on Monday, September 4.
