Working tax credits are a form of benefits designed to top up your earnings if you work and are on a low income.
Claims are initially calculated according to a claimants’ circumstances at the start of each financial year. People on tax credits have been told their tax credits will be stopped and they now have to make a new claim for universal credit.HMRC data shows each year about a third of all households in Britain claiming tax credits will be overpaid, and 13 per cent underpaid.To reclaim the overpayment, the DWP can reduce monthly payments by up to 25 per cent if someone is in work, and 15 per cent for those not in work.
