These new centres, funded by £5.25m from the Premier League, were created to provide greater access to the sport for talented girls aged eight to 16 across the country. An increased number of sites compared to previous RTCs will reportedly drive an increase in the number of young female players engaged in FA talent programmes from 1,722 to more than 4,200 by the end of the 2023/24 season.But the costs between centres vary markedly.
The first of these new ETCs began trials, and then training, during the 2022/23 season. 67 centres appear to now be up and running for the 2023/24 season, according to a national directory of ETCs compiled by the FA.that these changes may in some instances have resulted in a loss of top-level coaching and regular matches – and even left some players struggling to find a club when their old RTC closed.
