To lose one Cabinet minister due to improper conduct in your first six months as Prime Minister may be regarded as unfortunate. The fact thatis now staring at the possibility of his fourth ministerial loss in that period will be seen as nothing less than negligent.

Having entered Downing Street on the promise of bringing “integrity and accountability” into the role, Mr Sunak was always treading a fine line when he decided to hand back theLet us not forget, Ms Braverman – a trained barrister and former attorney general – had weeks prior to her appointment to Mr Sunak’s Cabinet been forced to resign from the same position for breaching the ministerial code.

The warning signs were not so much flashing when the Prime Minister offered one of the four great offices of state to his fellow Tory leadership contender, but rather they were sounding an air raid siren, such were the doubts about such a move. Despite the misgivings, Mr Sunak felt it better to have Ms Braverman, the new darling of the right of the Conservative Party, inside the tent and part of his government, as opposed to outside
