Linfield Girls' 2009 squad has recently returned from playing in a tournament at Oakham in the East Midlands
A group of young footballers have caught the eye of clubs including Manchester United, Brighton and Aston Villa following a series of impressive performances over the summer.
Assistant coach Stephen Havern says his young side were stepping into the unknown at Oakham, but they soon caught the eye of the teams they played against. "We had actually beaten Brighton in the group stages the day before, but we lost out in this one. They scored and put everyone behind the ball and saw it out.
"In fairness, the coaches from those clubs were very complimentary, and they said we were the best team at the tournament by a country mile. They couldn't believe that we are a grassroots team, and not an established academy."They were very interested in our story. The fact that we are volunteer coaches also surprised them.
"We also had 11 of the girls selected for the Northern Ireland Schoolgirls' team which played in the Foyle Cup over the summer.
