Suella Braverman accused of going rogue with asylum 'invasion' remarks
Sir Roger Gale, the local MP for the Manston site, accused Ms Braverman of “playing to the right wing” and accused her of breaking a promise made to him by previous home secretary Priti Patel not to expand the centre.A source close to Ms Braverman said: “We’ve had record numbers of migrants crossing the Channel in small boats this year and the Home Secretary was speaking in language the British people would understand about the scale of the crisis we are facing on the south coast.
Representatives of Border Force staff said the weapons have not been used on workers but have been confiscated from asylum seekers at the Manston processing centre in Kent, which is now a “powder keg waiting to blow”. Sir Roger said that following a visit to Manston on Sunday, “Robert put a fizzle under things and started to unblock the blockage that was caused, I’m certain, by the Home Secretary.”
Meanwhile, claims that the problem has been exacerbated by Tory home secretaries avoiding moving asylum seekers into seats held by the party have been dismissed by a source close to Ms Patel.
